Tally Bank Reconciliation: Why Are Amounts Not Reflected?

Trace a bank reconciliation mismatch from the statement row to the book entry before editing or re-importing transactions.

When an amount does not appear as expected in TallyPrime bank reconciliation, do not begin by importing the same statement again. First determine whether the bank row is missing, the book entry is missing, or both records exist but do not match. Tally'sbanking FAQlists missing book entries and missing or incorrect instrument numbers among possible causes.

Trace one transaction at a time

  1. Find the exact bank row using its date, amount, and reference number.
  2. Search Tally for the corresponding entry and confirm it is in the correct bank ledger and period.
  3. Compare cheque or instrument numbers when present; do not match on amount alone.
  4. Check whether the row was already imported or reconciled manually. A duplicate import can obscure the original issue.
  5. Record whether the exception comes from the statement, the books, or the import before making a correction.

Avoid forcing a match

Two transactions can share an amount but have different dates, references, or counterparties. Keep the statement row and book entry side by side, use the firm's normal correction process, and preserve the reason for any change. If a reset or re-import is necessary, test it in a backup company first and review the import summary afterward.

Reduce preventable mismatches before import

Review transaction counts, dates, debit and credit direction, references, and balance continuity before importing a converted file. Doxify can help prepare a reviewable PDF conversion and lets users inspect rows and replace ledger names before export. Try it with an approved sample if the source is a PDF, then compare the result to the original before importing; it cannot determine the cause of a Tally mismatch on its own.
